Top 10 Nursing Homes in Singapore [2024]

Singapore is the largest port in Southeast Asia and one of the busiest in the world. It is a sovereign island country and city-state in maritime Southeast Asia. Singapore is located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, about 85 miles (137 kilometers) north of the Equator. Singapore is the fourth most overworked city in the world, according to a study by Kisi, an American security solutions company. Most Singaporeans experience the hurdles of juggling their work and personal life, not to mention if they also have to provide care for the elderly at home. Currently, 17.6 per cent of the population here are aged 65 and above, with many of whom have difficulties performing one basic activity such as self-care, and will require some form of care. Therefore, nursing home proves to be one of the very much services needed, especially among the working class community who are struggling to adequately fulfil their roles both at the workplace and at home. It becomes very challenging and stressful to find a point of balance between careers and families. This is where nursing homes, nursing care and home care services come in, to help fulfil the roles and ease the burdens. Choosing the right nursing home is a big decision, no matter if you need a nursing home personally or are looking for a high-quality nursing home for a loved one. To help you choose the right facilities located near you in Singapore, we put together the 10 best nursing homes list.

*The sequence of nursing homes below is in no particular order.*

1. St Luke's ElderCare Residence

Photo credit: St Luke's ElderCare Residence

St Luke's ElderCare Residence is a Christian healthcare provider that delivers a full range of integrated services and programmes for the elders through their nursing home in Ang Mo Kio. They are the first 189-bedded residential care service that spans across 6 levels, accommodating 12 households (wards) in total. This is a residential care facility that provides long-term care for those who cannot be cared for at home or in their community. Other than nursing home, they also own over 20 eldercare centres in Singapore. St Luke's ElderCare Residence centers around empowering the elders to make their own choices according to their interests and lifestyle. Their unique care approach goes above and beyond the basic nursing home concept. For instance, to empower the elders to make decisions on their own, every household consisting of 12-16 elders will have their own kitchen appliances to enable them to make their own tea-breaks and snacks. Furthermore, the dining experience will include local hawker food choices and elders can expect an enhanced presentation of blended food to enable familiarity. They are located near to the bus stop ID 54229 and MRT Ang Mo Kio MRT station, as well as Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Thomson Medical Centre, which are within the driving distance approximately of 16 minutes.

Customer reviews:

"The visit to Jewel was very well organised and carefully thought of with the elderly in mind. From the moment they stepped out of the centre, to the bus, the destination, toilet breaks and food; every detail was addressed with much care.

The team work amongst your staff was superb. They ensured the elderly were happily engaged, they shared jokes and had friendly chats. They scouted picture moments, snapped dozens of pictures for the elderly to capture the special memories; ensuring no one was missed out.

One point I took away that reinforces why you are so great at what you do is when your staff said "when I first joined, our manager said we must treat the elderly as our parents". With that said and ingrained into the caregivers within your centre, we entrust our parents with you, knowing you always have their best interest in mind." -Hong L.

When my helper didnt come back due to domestic problems back home, Diyana was such an Angel and lend a great helping hand to my family by continuing to take care of my mum at Orange Valley Marsiling while I source for a new helper. Diyana was always in the background assuring me and keeping my spirit up during this crisis. Thank you Diyana!"

Customer reviews:

"My father had a bad fall in October last year. My father moved to NTUC Health Chai Chee Nursing Home in February after. spending months in a community hospital. At Chai Chee Nursing Home, my father received extremely good care by staff nurses who cared for him and treated him with kindness and respect. He also received regular rehabilitation exercises by the therapists there, and his progress was closely monitored by Gary Goh, the Occupational Therapist whom was in charge of his discharge planning

Gary, along with his team, came up with a program to help my father get back to his feet. My father was provided training that allowed him to become more independent. Before my father could be discharged to return home, my father was given an assessment that allowed him to demonstrate that he could do daily necessitates such as personal hygiene and showering. I was given caregiver training to provide for my father's care. Less than two weeks before discharge, a home visit was also conducted by Gary who visited my parents home with my father and myself and Gary assessed how safety can be improved in the home environment in order to ensure to prevent another fall from occurring. He also advised us on getting the necessary walking aids and helped us with the application of these aids. Another special thanks to Dhiren Dev, the medical social worker who helped us with the paperwork in applying the various grants and schemes offered by AIC.

My family is very grateful to all everyone at Chai Chee Nursing Home who helped my father recover from the fall. He is happy to be back home, with his wife. Thank you and please continue the good work that you do." -Sunil N.

Sunshine Welfare Action Mission (SWAMI Home) was founded in 1989, which is an established voluntary welfare organization that provides an integrated nursing home care and services to the elderly. Maintaining a ‘family’ feel, their dedicated staff members work tirelessly to meet the individual needs of each resident and ensure they receive all the care and attention they desire.

In SWAMI Home, interaction amongst the elderly is encouraged through games and calisthenic exercises to keep them active. As family involvement is very crucial for the morale of the residents, they provide many opportunities for building ties through Family Days and Birthday Celebrations.

Customer reviews:

"This place has a good energy about it.

A beautiful place for the folks who lives there and they are very well taken care of.

There are many Events organised throughout the year to occupy the Residence's time and fund risers organised yearly to help with the fundings for SWAMI Home.

Many friendly staffs and volunteers.

Staffs are friendly and happy, serving with a heart .

Volunteers are aplenty. They come in many different ages. They help to organise activities for the residence all year round.

This place is called

SWAMI Home for short.

They organise talks and events at the auditorium, from various organisations too.

This place is somewhat spiritual I must say."
